About Shropshire Drainage

Shropshire Drainage is an independent information and referral resource for off-mains drainage across Shropshire. It is not a drainage contractor and does not carry out work. What it does is explain these systems honestly, set out what the rules actually require, and put people in touch with a local firm that does the work, where one covers their area.

It exists for the properties the mains never reached. Across Shropshire, tens of thousands of homes, farms and rural businesses depend on their own septic tank, sewage treatment plant or cesspit, and on drains that are entirely their own responsibility. Off-mains drainage is all this site covers, from routine tank emptying and annual treatment plant servicing to soakaway testing, CCTV surveys, drain clearance and repairs.

How it works is simple. Describe your problem, including the postcode, the system type if you know it and what is happening. You get a straight read on what you are most likely dealing with, at no charge. Where a local off-mains drainage firm covers your area, your details are passed to them and they quote you directly. Where there is no good match for your job, your details are not passed on at all and we will tell you so, along with what to look for in a contractor you find yourself. Either way you are under no obligation, and you are free to compare any price against anyone else.

The area covered is the whole county and the Shropshire side of the Welsh Marches, from Whitchurch and Ellesmere in the north to Ludlow, Craven Arms and the Clun Valley in the south. The ground changes a great deal across that patch, from the clays and mosses of the north Shropshire plain to the limestone of Wenlock Edge and the old hard rock of the border hills, and that local variation genuinely matters to drainage work. It is why any competent installer tests the ground before designing a system, and why useful advice starts with your ground rather than a standard product.

Being plain about the limits of this: the site can tell you what you are probably dealing with and what the rules require, and it can point you at someone who does this work. It cannot quote you a price, promise you a visit or tell you when somebody will arrive. Those are the contractor's to give, once they have seen your site.
